3G Network Shutdown

Today 2degrees finally shutdown their old 3G network. This couldn't have happened at a worst time since I was about to make a booking on my shitty old 3G burner phone!



Guess I will need I need to purchase a new punting phone. Will definitely be looking for a eSIM capable one. I'm tired of having to buy physical sim cards from the supermarket!

On a positive note, it gives me the opportunity to upgrade to a phone with a flash light. So I will be prepare for my next public toilet tryst!

Looks like thr one/voda 3G shutdown is in an about a week in Auckland so I’m getting the last use out of my 20 year old Nokia puntphone. Actually has a physical light with a real bulb. Won’t miss having to text on the physical keyboard or the 60 message storage limit.

For the plan the skinny 4-week $8 one is pretty decent. with unlimited texts and 100 minutes calling.

Not sure on the phone yet, but will let you know when I buy one!

Just get the cheapest smartphone from wherever, it works fine.
Some phones also allow a dual SIM, so you can put your punting sim into your everyday phone and use it when needed.

The cheapest phones don't support eSIM. Which is an issue in my case, as I use two sim cards anyway. So my advice would be pay a bit more for a phone with eSIM. I only enable it when needed.

As it turned out my primary phone has a second sim card slot, so I'm just using that for the meantime.
